The European Pain Federation EFIC is looking for an advocacy and project officer to manage its advocacy and external relations activities. This is a full time position based in Brussels, at the Federation’s Executive Office.

About EFIC

The European Pain Federation is a non-profit medical organisation, focusing on the subject of pain medicine. The Federation is composed of 37 chapters across Europe, with an Executive Office based in Brussels, Belgium. The Federation aims to improve pain management through activities in the fields of education, research and advocacy. Projects include a biennial scientific congress, schools and examinations for medical professionals, a scientific journal, research projects and awareness raising activities.

The Executive Office coordinates or implements most of these projects, and collectively the team carry out the management of the association, in terms of:

  • Governance e.g. Executive Board and Council meeting organisation
  • Volunteer coordination
  • Advocacy activities and engagement with policy makers and other relevant stakeholders
  • Organising events and coordinating with external event organisers
  • Communications
  • Administrative management

EFIC follows the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/EU. Job Description

Advocacy and External Relations

  • Establishing and executing an advocacy strategy
  • Liaison with Committees or TFs responsible for advocacy
  • Day-to-day management of advocacy projects, including SIP, the SIP symposium, SIP expert group and EYAP, European Pain Forum and EFIC Presidential campaign (On the move)
  • Identify opportunities, developing and managing relations with external partners incl. medical societies, patients, policy makers, civil society organisations and, where relevant, industry
  • Coordination of relations with partner organisations including cross promotion activities (MOUs)

Cooperation and communication

  • Cooperate with and contribute to the work of the communication team on the day to day management of communications activities e.g. website management, social media and newsletters
  • Internal coordination with other team members on cross-cutting projects
  • Management of intern support on advocacy and communication related projects

Profile requirement

Essential:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a political, advocacy, public affairs or communications role
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Flexibility, willingness to learn and adapt
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Analytical and critical thinker
  • Availability to travel 5-8 times per year
  • Permit to work in the EU and availability to be based/relocate in Brussels

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with EU health policy
  • Familiarity with EU funding opportunities (e.g. Horizon 2020)
  • Familiarity with medical societies and their environment
  • Familiarity with communications and social media tools and activities (e.g. WordPress, Mailchimp, Hootsuite, Canva)
  • Experience in managing and executing awareness raising and policy projects e.g. drafting policy papers, running engagement campaigns and organising stakeholder events
