The Croatian Pain Society – Croatian Medical Association (the National Chapter of the European Pain Federation (EFIC) and the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP)), organized the 5th Croatian Congress on Pain Therapy with international participation in Zagreb, from 26-28 May 2022. A truly multidisciplinary audience of a total of 120 healthcare professionals from the field of pain medicine, anesthesiology, neurology, rheumatology, oncology, physiotherapy, psychology, and nursing, had the opportunity to listen to 31 invited speakers from six European countries and the United States of America. The sessions were organized in a way to cover topics from different fields of pain treatment – acute, COVID-19 related, musculoskeletal, neuropathic, carcinoma, minimally invasive treatment, and free topics. Prof. Luis Garcia-Larrea (President-elect of the European Pain Federation EFIC) and prof. Claudia Sommer (President of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP)), opened Congress with excellent plenary lectures: ” Pain and its brain: A journey from nociception to compassion” and ” Global Year for Translating Pain Knowledge to Practice “. With 11 accepted abstracts in form of poster presentations, participants also contributed to the scientific program of Congress. Many of the attendants took the opportunity to participate in a workshop – Minimally invasive procedures in the treatment of pain under ultrasound control (with live models).
This was our first Congress after the pandemic. There was enough time for meeting many old friends, making new ones, and exchanging ideas on areas of common interest in pain medicine. Participants have the opportunity to meet up with some of the world’s leading pain experts, such as Luis Garcia-Larrea, Claudia Sommer, Rogger Knaggs, and Leonardo Kapural. There is nothing like face-to-face meetings to spark discussion between colleagues. We greet you with a wish for a meeting as soon as possible.

Italy
45th National Congress of the Italian Association for the Study of Pain
Naples, 22-24 September 2022
The National Congress of the Italian Association for the Study of Pain, AISD, has represented for more than 40 years a significant moment of multidisciplinary scientific comparison and training to which experts and professionals engaged in research and clinical practice contribute.
Due to the pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 Congresses were held in virtual mode, still enjoying great participation success, also thanks to the commitment of the Scientific Committee which proposed excellent scientific contents, with constant reference to the most frequent and current clinical problems that are faced in daily practice. For both the 2020 and 2021 editions, participants were given the opportunity to listen to the reports for the six months following the Congress, by accessing the www.congressoaisd.it platform. AISD members can instead review the Congress, without time limits, by accessing the reserved area of the AISD website, www.aisd.it.
For the 2022 edition of the National Congress, the AISD Board of Directors has decided to take a step towards normality and to propose a hybrid event, with participation in the presence, at the Congress Center of the Royal Continental Hotel in Naples, and with the direct streaming. For the purposes of CME accreditation, an asynchronous distance learning formula is provided.
Made optimistic by the success of the last 2021 edition, which saw the participation of more than 870 members, the organizers promise, thanks to the hybrid formula, to reach the widest possible audience, in absolute safety.

Dr. Stanislav Fabus, passed away
With a feeling of deep sadness, I would like to inform you that at the age of 86, on March 25, 2022, our dear friend and colleague Dr. Stanislav Fabus, passed away.
He stood at the birth of Slovak algesiology and palliative medicine, while day after day, month after month and year after year slowly but with a firm, precise and at the same time loving hand, he added brick by brick to the foundations of his life’s work.
Dr. Fabus was and always will remain a teacher, educator for us. He was a teacher responsible in the present, but always looking far ahead.
He raised a generation of pain specialists who, together with him, magnified and pushed our field forward, lived with us in times of success, in times of searching, but also in times of difficulties, or losses, or failures
Dr. Fabus has left his mark and is leaving in us, his colleagues – and we are glad to be able to tell our friends as well.
Thank you, Stanislav, for all the effort you have put into your fruitful life in carrying out our joint dream.
The brave and conscientious work you have contributed to our work will always be our example and encouragement.
Thank you for everything.
Honor your memory!
