Pain research generates findings that matter: for people living with pain, for health professionals, and for policy. Yet much of that knowledge never travels beyond the pages of scientific journals. The newly established EFIC Lab-to-Society Working Group was set up to address exactly that gap.
The working group’s mission is to develop structured, evidence-based communications that translate pain research into accessible content, and to support the 40 national EFIC chapters in disseminating that content across Europe, including in local languages where possible. Each year, a defined focus area frames a series of targeted outputs, from key messages and plain-language research summaries to myth-busting content and expert perspectives. These materials are designed to be reused and adapted, giving chapters practical tools to reach their own communities.
For 2026, the theme is “From Research to Reality: Pain Beyond the Myths.” Misinformation about pain is widespread – in clinical practice, in the media, and in everyday life. The working group will release a rotating series of myth-busting outputs throughout the year, each grounded in current evidence and with clear relevance for clinical or patient audiences.
