The On The Move (OTM) Working Group has recently published a new position paper in the European Journal of Pain (EJP) titled “Walking for Chronic Pain: Why It Matters, What We Know and How to Get Started“.
The position paper brings together current scientific evidence on walking as a therapeutic approach for chronic musculoskeletal pain. It highlights the potential benefits of walking for pain, physical function, and quality of life, while emphasising that gradual progression tailored to individual abilities is more important than achieving fixed step-count targets.
The paper also provides evidence-informed guidance to help healthcare professionals support people living with chronic pain in incorporating walking into their daily routines safely and sustainably.
