The European Pain Federation EFIC is pleased to share that the Pain Relief Foundation’s 25th Annual Lecture, taking place on Thursday 22 October 2026, will be given in honour of Felicia “Flick” Cox FRCN, who passed away in January 2026 after a long illness. This year marks a milestone for the lecture series, which began as a Millennium project in 2000 and has since become a fixture in the pain community’s calendar, each edition paying tribute to someone who made an outstanding contribution to the treatment and study of chronic pain.
This year’s lecture, “Supporting people to live well and die well with chronic pain”, will be given by Professor Candy McCabe, Head of Education and Research at Dorothy House Hospice, Winsley, and Professor Emerita at the University of the West of England, Bristol. The meeting will be chaired by Professor Michelle Briggs and Roger Knaggs, and a short appreciation of Flick’s life and work will be given by Dr Gill Chumbley, former Nurse Consultant for the pain service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a member of the EFIC opioid task force that produced European guidance on the use of opioids in chronic non-cancer pain.
The lecture takes place at the Wolfson Lecture Theatre, Clinical Sciences Centre, Aintree University Hospital, with refreshments from 5.30pm and the lecture commencing at 6.00pm. Hybrid attendance is available for those unable to join in person.
