The European Pain Federation EFIC is pleased to share recent news and updates from our 38 national chapters below.
Finland

At a moment when so much terrible is happening not far from us it’s hard to say anything. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people and our colleagues in Ukraine at this time as we see pictures of war and destruction, of pain and suffering of too many people.

What`s new in the Finnish EFIC Chapter?

There are many personal changes in our council. We have a new president, Maiju Marttinen (pj@skty.org). We assume that the change in personnel will lead to an intensification of activities in our chapter.

We are working on measures to improve the research collaboration of the members of the association and their pain management skills.

We are also planning to modernize our Chapters website and give our members more options to optimize their work with pain patients. There will be a direct link to the EFIC homepage. In addition, we plan to provide information and a direct link to the Finnish SIP.

Last year our pain congress could only take place virtually. This year we will hopefully hold our congress in a hybrid form on March, 31 and April, 01 in Kuopio. The goal of the 2022 Global Year is to raise awareness of pain knowledge and its benefits for people living in pain. This is also our motto: Translating Pain Knowledge to Practice.

Let’s hope we can all meet up in Dublin at EFIC.

France

The 2021 SFETD Congress was held in Montpellier from November 17 to 19, 2021. It was a success and almost entirely on site, with more than 1300 participants out of 1600 present in Montpellier and full -but masked!- sessions during 3 full days. The next congress will take place in Lille, from November 16 to 18, 2022. The vast majority of the presentations being in French, all francophone colleagues in Europe are cordially invited to participate! Visit https://www.congres-sfetd.fr/

A number of other scientific and educational manifestations will be organised by the SFETD in 2022, to which we should like to attract your attention:

27-29 March 2022 – « Universités Infirmières » / University of Pain Nursing, Lyon
8-11 June 2022 – SFETD – « Ecole de la douleur neuropathique »Euridol Strasbourg
21 June 2022 – Douleur et scolarité / Pain & scolarity – Hôpital Européen G Pompidou, Paris
9 September 2022 – Douleur et Cancer / Pain and Cancer – FIAP Jean Monnet, Paris
22 September 2022 – Douleur et dyscommunication – Hôpital Européen G Pompidou, Paris

For several years, the French Pain Society SFETD has joined the European initiative “Societal Impact of Pain” initiated by the EFIC, which resulted in 22 proposals signed by 13 French organizations in 2020.

There has no been in France any political initiative or pain-related national program since 2012. The consequences are increased waiting times for pain patients, a weakening of chronic pain structures (retirement of 25% of doctors within 5 years) and a lack of attractiveness of Pain Medicine for young doctors. Mobilisation of the Pain society toward deans of faculties and public authorities has led to a proposal to the Ministry of Health of a National Pain Plan based on 3 priorities: (i) the improvement of health care pathway and city-hospital cooperation for chronic pain patients ; (ii) the training in pain medicine for all health professionals, with the recognition of pain as a medical specialty, and (iii) the Improvement of pain management for vulnerable people. These axes, presented to the Ministry of Health in January 2022, led to the publication by a Member of Parliament of a monographic report entirely dedicated to chronic pain.

Hungary

The 2022 year will be very important in the life of our Society.

I. There is no pain specialist training in Hungary yet, but we consider it important to teach and transfer modern knowledge. Our Society is launching a 3-semesters multidisciplinary, methodological course entitled „Chronic Pain Therapy”, which is being accredited at Semmelweis University of Budapest. The first semester of 40-hour training begins in September. Our speakers are excellent representatives of their respective fields and have to take on this pioneering task.

21. September (on line): Chronic pain general, basics

05. October (on line): Principles of chronic pain therapy. Clinics I.

20. October (on line): Psychotherapy, Clinics II: Chronic haedache

03. November (precongress day): Clinics III-IV: Chronic neuropathic pain I-II.

Detailed program for accreditation following the end of March is available at https://fajdalom-tarsasag.hu

II. Our Society plans to create five working groups, sections from its members, which will deal with the critical points of Hungarian pain therapy. Their main tasks are to identify gaps and build consensus between different disciplines and health policy representatives.

These sections are:
