As the European Pain Federation EFIC used to be a EU Cycle Thematic Network stakeholder, we encourage other organizations to apply to this initiative.

Deadline for submissions: 27 June 2019 11h00 CET (morning), Brussels time.

The European Commission is inviting public health stakeholders to submit initiatives for a new cycle of Thematic Networks under the EU Health Policy Platform. The purpose of a Thematic Network is to produce a Joint Statement within a year, summarising the common position of a group of stakeholder organisations on one of the following selected public health topics:

Healthcare education and training, especially on digital skills of the health workforce

  1. New health workforce skills and competences to address the digital transformation in the health sector, promoting more effective, accessible and resilient health system and taking into account the innovation in digital and data areas
  2. Health workforce specific education and training required to develop skills and competences for the provision of integrated care, in wider inter-disciplinary teams and coping with patients with multiple chronic conditions
  3. Health workforce education and training needs to encourage task shifting and help reducing shortages and addressing the problem of so-called “medical deserts” with falling numbers of medical practitioners in several EU regions

Promotion of whole grain consumption

  1. Best practices/evaluated initiatives in promotion of whole grain consumption, in particular in school settings
  2. Availability and affordability of whole grain products in EU Member States in low, middle and high income population
  3. Whole grain advertising (AV medias)

The European Commission may also consider proposals from other policy areas if stakeholders from other fields of public health present sound reasons for doing so; or combinations of several policy areas mentioned above.

The Joint Statements shall advice the European Commission on its policy activities and shall encourage the stakeholder’s community to join forces and carry out their own activities/initiatives in synergy with those carried out by the Commission and the Member States. For this reason, proposals addressed by Thematic Networks should be in line with the EU health policy agenda. Thematic networks are encouraged to make use of all the information made available to them to prepare Joint Statements that engage the commitment of the stakeholder community.

Joint Statements are not binding for the European Commission. They are owned by the organisation leading the Thematic Network. The work on the Joint Statements is the responsibility of the organisations involved in drafting it through the Health Policy Platform. Ideally, Joint Statements should commit the stakeholder’s community to carry out work in the selected domains in synergy with the action taken by the European Commission informing about their topic’s challenges, solutions and best practices.

To apply please:

Prepare a brief summary of your proposal (maximum 2 pages)

  1. Include the scope of your future Joint Statement
  2. Explain the relevance of your proposal for the selected area and the possible synergy with ongoing or planned EU actions on health in the European Union
  3. Include the link or links your joint statement will have with the EU Health Policy agenda
  4. State your objectives and how you will reach them
  5. List your possible network and partners involved (you can include logos if you wish)
  6. State the leading organisation clearly
  7. Contact person and details

Send your proposal to: SANTE-HPP@ec.europa.eu

Deadline: 27 June 2019 11.00 CET (Brussels time)

The European Commission will evaluate the proposals received by topic and select a maximum of 6 proposals. The organisations having submitted these 6 proposals (maximum) will be contacted and invited to participate in the EU Health Policy Platform annual meeting in autumn 2019, where they will be invited to present their proposals of Joint Statements 2020. This would give them an important networking opportunity (in addition, this event will be live-streamed).

Before the annual meeting, around end of September 2019, these 6 proposals will be presented in a poll in the Agora network (the main network of the EU Health Policy Platform), where all registered users of the Platform will be allowed to vote. The poll will be open during four weeks. We encourage stakeholders to register in advance to vote for their preferred Thematic Network, as last-minute registrations cannot be guaranteed.

The 3 to 4 proposals with the most votes in the EU Health Policy Platform poll will be considered as the final proposals for the 2020 Thematic Networks cycle, which will kick-off early 2020.
