On 28 May, patient representative Lars Bye Møller from FAKS – the Danish Association of People Afflicted by Chronic Pain, and Professor Kristian Kjær Petersen, PhD, Dr Med, from the CNAP – Centre for Neuroplasticity and Pain at Aalborg University, appeared on TV2 Go’ Morgen Danmark.
They discussed the newly published review article on osteoarthritis in Springer Nature Reviews Rheumatology and chronic pain in general.
Lars and Kristian also talked about that there’s a big gap between what pain science has taught us and what patients experience in everyday clinical practice.
This is not primarily a consequence of insufficient commitment among healthcare professionals. Rather, it reflects decades of underinvestment in:
- Pain education and training
- Research capacity
- Specialized pain services
- Healthcare structures that support coherent pain care trajectories
The two advocates also issued a call to policymakers to advance the field of pain, research and care:
“Chronic pain should receive the same level of political attention and investment as other major public health conditions”.
