We are pleased to share that on 12 June, EFIC hosted a joint webinar between the Societal Impact of Pain (SIP) Platform, the World Health Organization, Pain Alliance Europe, and SIP Sweden on ICD-11 and Digital Health: Integrating Pain into Modern Health Systems.
The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is the international standard diagnostic tool for epidemiology, health management, research, and clinical practice, as well as the global standard for reporting diseases and health conditions.
ICD-11 enables the systematic recording, analysis, interpretation, and comparison of mortality and morbidity data collected across countries and regions over time. It also supports semantic interoperability and the re-use of health data for multiple purposes, including clinical decision-making, resource allocation, reimbursement, and the development of guidelines.
The webinar explored how ICD-11 can be effectively integrated into digital health systems to ensure that pain is appropriately captured within routine health data. Discussions focused in particular on the practical implementation of ICD-11 in electronic health records and health information systems, and how this can improve data quality, support better decision-making, and strengthen care pathways for people living with pain.
