New statistics published by Eurostat illustrate the progress of seven specific musculoskeletal disorders. Notably, among these, two occupational diseases/conditions showed the most significant declines (out of the 16 diseases covered in this article) between 2013 and 2021.
The number of individuals officially recognised as having soft tissue disorders (such as muscle or tendon injuries) related to use, overuse, and pressure decreased by 62%, and the number of individuals recognised with other peripheral vascular diseases (blood circulation disorders) decreased by 50%.
Additionally, among these seven selected musculoskeletal disorders, only two occupational diseases (out of the 16) demonstrated a higher index value in 2021 compared to 2013: synovitis and tenosynovitis (inflammation of the synovial lining of a joint or tendon sheath) increased by 13%, and other enthesopathies (inflamed and painful joints) increased by 1%.
