Aims / Objectives:

The ERA-NET NEURON Joint Transnational Call (JTC) 2025 seeks to advance interdisciplinary research in the neuroscience of pain, emphasizing the complex interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors in chronic pain. The initiative encourages collaborative projects that enhance understanding of chronic pain mechanisms, aiming to improve diagnosis and develop innovative, personalized treatment strategies.

Research proposals should focus on at least one of the following areas:

  • Fundamental research on the pathogenesis and/or aetiology of chronic pain.
  • Pre-clinical and clinical research to develop new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, therapy, and rehabilitation of chronic pain.

The call particularly promotes multidisciplinary work that combines basic and clinical approaches, fostering novel ideas achievable through complementary collaboration among partners.

Relevance to pain community:

This call is particularly significant for the pain community as it addresses the pressing need for interdisciplinary research into chronic pain—a condition that profoundly impacts millions worldwide. By emphasising the integration of biological, psychological, and social factors, the call fosters a holistic approach to understanding pain mechanisms and improving patient outcomes. With its focus on innovative diagnostic methods, personalised treatments, and strategies for prevention and rehabilitation, the call provides an invaluable opportunity for the pain community to advance knowledge, drive impactful solutions, and ultimately enhance the quality of life for those living with chronic pain.
