Acute Pain Management: Scientific Evidence Fifth Edition is a book published by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) and its Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM), is a comprehensive guide that collates, and reviews scientific evidence related to acute pain management.

It is intended for clinicians and healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with acute pain, whether due to surgery, injury, or other medical conditions. The Book’s scope spans a wide range of topics, from fundamental concepts in pain medicine to specific treatment modalities, strategies for different patient populations, and considerations for special circumstances.

One key aspect of the Book is its emphasis on evidence-based practice. It reviews and analyses current research and scientific data related to pain management to provide readers with recommendations based on the best available evidence. This includes discussions on pharmacological treatments (like opioids, non-opioid medications, and local anaesthetics), regional analgesia, non-pharmacological interventions (like physical therapy or psychological strategies), and technological interventions.

We the European Pain Federation EFIC are delighted to endorse the Book.
