Welcome to #EFIC2027

Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,

On behalf of the European Pain Federation EFIC, I am proud to invite you to the most prestigious and largest international pain meeting in 2027: the 15th Congress of the European Pain Federation EFIC, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland from 21 to 23 April 2027.

The European Pain Federation EFIC is a multi-disciplinary scientific and medical society in the field of pain science. It represents 40 national pain societies across Europe, all of them Chapters of the IASP, and brings together the expertise of over 20,000 healthcare professionals dedicated to advancing pain research, education, and treatment.

The #EFIC2027 Congress will include lectures, workshops and symposia, refresher courses, and networking initiatives covering all aspects of pain, from research to clinical practice. It will also feature master classes and plenary sessions on cutting-edge topics, helping you stay ahead of new developments in pain science and management. This edition of the Congress will be held under the timely and unifying theme: “Building Bridges in Pain: Thriving through Communication.”

Despite continuous progress, translating scientific knowledge into clinical application remains a major challenge. Our #EFIC2027 aims to contribute to bridge this gap under the motto of Communication. Communication not only across the different specialties which contribute to develop the best pain management options, but also across a wide spectrum of researchers, clinicians, policymakers, … and patients, without whom relevant progress is unlikely to come. The Congress will be a unique opportunity to hear from world-leading experts, discover innovations in translational research and implementation science, and strengthen collaboration across professions.

Glasgow has a longstanding history of outstanding medical achievements, with contributions ranging from basic neurobiology to anatomy, investigative and clinical sciences. Glasgow also provides a vibrant and welcoming setting for our congress. A city known for its rich history and cultural diversity, Glasgow offers the perfect backdrop for scientific exchange, networking, and shared experiences.

On behalf of the European Pain Federation EFIC, I warmly encourage you to join us in Glasgow for the most ambitious Pain Congress of 2027. Together, let us build bridges to transform pain management, and shape a more connected, science-informed, and patient-centred future.

With best regards,
Luis Garcia-Larrea
President, European Pain Federation EFIC

Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,

It is a great honour for me to invite you to the 15th Congress of the European Pain Federation EFIC – PAIN IN EUROPE XV, to be held in Glasgow, Scotland from 21–23 April 2027.

For many years, I have had the privilege of serving our federation as a clinician, researcher, and advocate for pain science and practice. As an anesthesiologist and pain specialist with a long-standing commitment to translational research, I have dedicated my career to understanding the mechanisms of pain, bridging basic science to clinical application, and improving pain care for patients across Europe and beyond.

EFIC Congresses have always been unique platforms where science meets practice and where ideas are shared across disciplines. At #EFIC2027, we will continue this tradition by presenting a comprehensive, multidisciplinary programme that encompasses cutting-edge basic research, clinical innovation, education, and implementation science.

A central pillar of this mission  – and a personal priority – is the development and empowerment of Early Career Researchers. Pain research and care will be shaped by the next generation of investigators, clinicians, and thought leaders. For this reason, #EFIC2027 is designed to provide expanded opportunities for ECR engagement: from dedicated networking sessions, mentoring opportunities, and presentation slots, to platforms that foster connections with senior scientists and clinicians across Europe. We want your voice, your questions, and your discoveries to be front and centre, because the vitality of our field depends on your success.

This Congress will also feature master classes, symposia, workshops, and interdisciplinary discussions that reflect the latest advances in acute, chronic, neuropathic and cancer pain. We will highlight innovations that arise from collaboration across disciplines, countries, and career stages and celebrate the diversity and creativity of our pain community.

Glasgow’s rich scientific heritage and vibrant cultural landscape provide a fitting backdrop for this exchange of knowledge and ideas. I warmly encourage you to join us in Scotland, to present your work, to engage with peers, and to contribute to a shared vision: a world where pain science thrives and translates into better care for all people living with pain. I look forward to welcoming you to #EFIC2027!

With best regards,

Esther Pogatzki-Zahn
President Elect, European Pain Federation EFIC®

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the next EFIC Congress: Pain in Europe XV, which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 21 to 23 April 2027.

As Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee, I welcome the international pain community as we gather once again to share insights, exchange knowledge, and advance the field of pain research and medicine at #EFIC2027.

This EFIC Congress: Pain in Europe XV theme, “Building Bridges in Pain: Thriving through Communication” reflects one of the central challenges in our field: ensuring that efficient communication is present in all aspects of our activities. Clear communication allows us to translate knowledge from our Field into meaningful improvements for patients’ lives. Analogously, effective communication allows the Pain Field to be enriched by understanding the priorities people with pain and society prioritize as their main needs.

At #EFIC2027, we aim to explore these many dimensions of communication and how they can pave the way for more effective approaches to pain management. We will explore communication in all its flavors: between the different areas of our brains, between body and mind, between people with pain and caregivers, with non-verbally communicating people, with researchers, with policy makers, and with society. Communication a mean for our main goal: relief of suffering caused by pain.

The Scientific Programme Committee has just been appointed and is already designing a comprehensive and multidisciplinary programme that brings together diverse perspectives. We will feature internationally recognised experts as well as new voices from the next generation of researchers and clinicians. Early Career Researchers will have the opportunity to present their work, engage with senior experts, and establish professional connections that can shape their careers.

We are also delighted to be working closely with the British Pain Society as well as an outstanding local organising committee made up of leading voices across pain science and care in the UK, representing disciplines from medicine, nursing, psychology, physiotherapy, pharmacy, centered around people with lived experience. This collaboration will ensure a truly inclusive and multidisciplinary programme that is synergistic between EFIC and the BPS.

Beyond the lectures, symposia, and workshops, #EFIC2027 will serve as a vibrant hub for connecting with peers from across Europe and the globe. Delegates will be able to engage in lively discussions, participate in interactive sessions, and forge collaborations that extend far beyond the congress itself. I am confident that your time at #EFIC2027 will be both intellectually stimulating and personally rewarding.

On behalf of the Scientific Programme Committee, I look forward to welcoming you to Glasgow in April 2027 for days of science, collaboration, and community.

With Kind Regards,
Ass. Prof. Daniel Ciampi de Andrade
Chair, Scientific Programme Committee
