As part of the DIGI4MSK webinar series, this session will focus on how healthcare professionals can use patient-centered communication to improve outcomes in musculoskeletal (MSK) pain care. In an era where patients are increasingly influenced by digital health information, effective communication and health literacy are more important than ever. We are pleased to welcome Professor Peter O’Sullivan (Curtin University), researcher and clinician in MSK pain and developer of Cognitive Functional Therapy. He will share evidence-based approaches and practical strategies to help HCPs make every word count in their patient interactions. Join us to explore how better communication can bridge the gap between evidence and patient understanding—supporting DIGI4MSK’s mission to enhance MSK health literacy across Europe.

People living with pain frequently face mental health challenges—but health systems rarely connect the dots. For this year’s World Mental Health Day, EFIC and EPA came together to launch a call to action for better integration of care, discuss recent research and highlight important resources.

Watch researchers unveil the long-term societal and economic burden of chronic pain, featuring findings from The costs of chronic pain—long-term estimates (Eur J Pain, Jan 2024), covering impacts on quality of life, work productivity, and healthcare costs. This will be followed by a presentation on the SIP Book of Evidence, a powerful advocacy tool designed for policymakers outlining pain prevalence, stigma, and policy recommendations, and the newly released SIP Position Paper on Preventive Healthcare for Chronic Pain.

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common and challenging conditions in clinical practice, with diverse aetiologies requiring nuanced approaches. In this EFIC webinar, two experts explore and compare the diagnosis and management of non-specific LBP and facet joint syndrome. Through clinical insights, case-based discussion, and audience Q&A, we will highlight key similarities, differences, and opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes.

Watch this webinar on Stress Awareness Month, exploring the link between stress and chronic pain. Experts discussed how a person’s stress mindset and social identification impact coping strategies and well-being in chronic pain conditions. Additionally, we explored the role of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) in improving psychological health without altering pain perception. This webinar provided insights into approaches to manage pain more effectively.
