Management of Chronic pain discussed at State Duma. On Sept 21 the Committee for Public Health and the Environment was held in the State Duma, the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia. The following issue was raised during the round table discussion: “Management of the Chronic pain syndrome in Russia: current state and prospects for the development. Legislative aspects”. Different aspects of current problems were discussed as well as possible ways of overcoming strategies, presented by doctors, patients, politicians.
On 24-25 September, the Moscow-based Petrovsky National Research Centre of Surgery organized an educational cycle “Pain medicine: diagnostics and treatment aspects of pain syndromes”. The educational program included both lectures of leading authorities in Russian pain medicine as well as training exercises and workshops. The scientific and practical program was focused on the most prevalent pain syndromes, including lower back pain, headache and musculoskeletal pain disorders.
On 7-8 October, the Russian Association for the Study of Pain (RASP) was approved as a new member of National Medical Chamber of Russia as a part of the National Medical Association. The National Medical Chamber of Russia is initiated by doctors and for doctors to communicate freely, to co-operate actively, to achieve consensus on high standards of medical ethics and professional competence, and to promote their professional freedom. The acknowledgment of RASP to this doctor’s association is of great value in order to further contribute to the medical society and public health in general.
As part of its educational activity, RASP runs an educational program for doctors from different regions of the country. RASP leaders M. Kukushkin, O. Davidov and M. Churukanov are covering the latest features of basic pain physiology and pathophysiology, its major points that are needed for proper diagnostic and management strategies forming. Educational schools aimed to cover aspects of dysfunctinal pain prevalence, successful backpain management, accuracy in neuropathic pain diagnostics, musculoskeletal pain disorders and other aspects of pain medicine in terms of the Russian health care system. There is a timetable for pain educational programs with certain cities which RASP is planning to visit, covering yet 30 cities only in the four-month period.
RASP is working on the developing of national pain guidelines in order to disseminate the latest features of pain diagnosis and treatment procedures and unify the appropriate standards for pain management, including legislative aspects and others.
On 17-19 September 2020 RASP is going to hold the XXVI research-to-practice conference “Pain medicine – from understanding to intervention”. The conference will take place in Vladivostok, Russia. The aim of the conference is to expand the latest knowledge associated with pain medicine, improve multidisciplinary interactions concerning complex pain treatment and share experiences according to specialized pain treatment services. The Organizing Committee also offers a competition for Young Scientists (under 33 y.o.): The authors of best projects will get a chance to perform their study on scientific session of conference and achieve the Organizing Committee awards.
