About Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness month

Since 2014, the month of November is recognised as Colour The World Orange™ for CRPS awareness. The aim of the event is to spread awareness about CRPS – a disabling and poorly understood health condition. On the day, people are encouraged to wear orange, take a photo and post it on social media with the hashtag #CRPSOrangeDay. The month is marked with the slogan: “A New Day in the Fight Against CRPS”.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), is a chronic pain condition characterised by continuous, intense and often burning, pain that is out of proportion to the severity of the original injury. Symptoms can include changes in the skin colour and temperature of the affected body part, as well as skin sensitivity, sweating and swelling.

The European Pain Federation have created an app called CRPS Assist. It provides comprehensive information for clinicians to aid the assessment and treatment of patients with CRPS.

The European Pain Federation have produced 17 standards for the diagnosis and management of CRPS for use in Europe. These are considered achievable for most countries. Read full paper here: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ejp.1362
