On the 13th February, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes. A European Parliament resolution has no legal standing, but expresses the will of the Parliament on an issue. The resolution informs the European Commission, who may come forward with a legal proposal in the future. Any legal proposal would involve the European Parliament, who could then follow the direction of the resolution in how it amends the legislation.

Last year the European Pain Federation EFIC set out its position on the appropriate use of cannabis‐based medicines and medical cannabis for chronic pain management. EFIC will work with European Union policy makers to ensure that any legislation is informed by our position paper and provides the best possible treatment options for people living with chronic pain.
