EFIC is issuing an open call for ideas for new clinical guidance proposals: A targeted initiative to invite the EFIC community to propose new clinical guidance topics in pain management.
Why is clinical guidance needed?
The European Pain Federation (EFIC) sees a growing need for evidence-based, multidisciplinary clinical guidance to support healthcare professionals in the effective management of pain. As pain conditions—both acute and chronic—become increasingly complex, clinicians and patients benefit from clear, structured, and consensus-driven recommendations based on current best practices.
Why now – And why EFIC?
Across Europe, clinical documents are being published with variable quality and relevance. EFIC believes that new guidance must:
- Add real value to daily clinical practice,
- Uphold high scientific standards,
- Be built through multidisciplinary consensus,
- Remain applicable across diverse healthcare systems.
With its strong network of national chapters, scientific experts, commitment to patient involvement, and partnerships with other scientific societies, EFIC is uniquely positioned to lead this effort.
How to submit?
Guidance for submissions and the checklist used for evaluating proposals are available here: EFIC Clinical Practice Guidelines Requirements
You can submit your proposals here after reading our guidance on submissions.
We aim to select several high quality proposals which we will support and, once complete, champion as official clinical recommendations of EFIC.
Timeline

The evaluation process should be complete by Friday 27 March 2026, with result communicated shortly afterwards.
