As we move into 2025, the European Pain Federation EFIC is as committed as ever to advancing the field of pain education, pain research and pain management.

In 2025, the 14th EFIC Congress – PAIN IN EUROPE XIV will be held in Lyon, France, under the theme “Comorbidity of Chronic Pain and Mental Health Disorders: Breaking the Cycle”. The congress will foster multidisciplinary collaboration and feature cutting-edge research on pain and mental health. We look forward to welcoming the European pain community to the largest international scientific meeting on pain this year. EFIC will also continue to expand and improve on our multidisciplinary pain education offerings in 2025 via the EFIC Academy, EFIC Pain Exams and EFIC Pain Schools, supplying healthcare professionals with the tools to address the complex challenges of pain management.

EFIC intends to build on the successful research collaborations of previous years and allocate further resources to support projects in 2025, encouraging cross-disciplinary investigations into the mechanisms, treatments, and impact of pain. In 2025, EFIC will build on the momentum of the European Pain Research Strategy, published in late 2024. We will prioritise high-quality basic, translational, and clinical research across Europe, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration to enhance pain understanding and management.

EFIC’s advocacy will remain central to shaping European pain policy in 2025, particularly through initiatives like the  Societal Impact of Pain (SIP) project or our campaigns Plain Talking and On The Move, as well as the newly launched European Day on Pain Awareness. Collaboration with policymakers and healthcare organisations will be key to reducing pain disparities and improving patient outcomes across Europe.

Together, these initiatives aim to strengthen pain management, support researchers, and advance policy change across Europe, driving meaningful progress in pain education, research, and advocacy throughout 2025.
