Last week, the Societal Impact of Pain (SIP) platform team, together with a delegation from the European Pain Federation EFIC and Pain Alliance Europe (PAE) met with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) Tomislav Sokol and Romana Jerković, as well as policy advisors and assistants from several MEP offices who share a strong interest in advancing pain policy across Europe.
The SIP delegation included Joanne O’Brien Kelly (EFIC) and Liisa Jutila (PAE), who joined to highlight the importance of prevention as a key priority in European pain policy. Discussions also explored how preventive strategies can reduce the personal and societal burden of chronic pain and improve long-term outcomes for patients.
The meetings also reflected on SIP’s past work at the intersection of pain and mental health, underlining the importance of integrated, patient-centred approaches. Participants welcomed the opportunity to exchange views on current challenges and explore ways to advance joint action at the EU level.
SIP is looking forward to continuing this important dialogue and strengthening cross-sector collaboration in the lead-up to the European Day on Pain Awareness in October.
