SIP Sweden calebrated the European Day on Pain Awareness this October with a series of initiatives aimed at increasing public understanding of pain and strengthening collaboration between healthcare professionals, researchers, and patient organisations.
The European Day on Pain Awareness is observed each year on the third Wednesday of October. Its purpose is to increase awareness of the impact of pain on individuals and society.
Webinar: “Pain and Mental Health – The Connections You Need to Know”
On 15 October, SIP Sweden hosted a webinar titled “Pain and Mental Health – The Connections You Need to Know”, held by Elisabeth Bondesson, physiotherapist, epidemiologist, researcher at HTA South, Skåne University Hospital, Lund University, and National Register Coordinator (NRS).
The session explored the bidirectional relationship between pain and mental health, underlining the importance of psychological support as part of pain care.
“Smärta och psykisk ohälsa – sambanden du behöver känna till” was livestreamed for the public to mark the awareness day.
Presence at Pain Forum 2025
To further raise awareness of the societal impact of pain, SIP Sweden participated in the annual national pain conference Pain Forum, on 16 and 17 October. The platform informed attendees about SIP Sweden’s mission and the value of strong collaboration between pain professionals and patient associations to influence the public and decision makers.
As stated in the SIP Sweden mission presentation:
”I Societal Impact of Pain (SIP) Sweden arbetar patienter, forskare, hälso och sjukvårdspersonal tillsammans för att öka kunskapen om smärta och förbättra smärtvården i Sverige och i Europa.”
SIP Sweden is part of the broader SIP Europe platform, led by the European Pain Federation EFIC and Pain Alliance Europe (PAE), which aims to increase awareness of pain across Europe.
