The Health Literacy Working Group has reconvened after the summer break and is currently planning the next phase of the Plain Talking campaign. During the initial phase, a large survey was developed and translated into 14 languages, and was disseminated through EFIC Chapters and via social media to gather information on the needs and the challenges faced by the people living with pain. This was followed up with a focus group workshop which included people living with chronic pain.
Key findings from the survey (n=>500 responses) and the workshop were that there is a greater need for resources to support people living with chronic pain in understanding the chronology of their condition and in more effectively navigating healthcare systems. In addition, these resources should be provided in multiple formats such as written leaflets and videos.
During the next phase of the campaign, the Working Group will be exploring, together with Pain Alliance Europe (PAE), to develop such resources using health literacy sensitive approaches and Plain English strategies.
