The European Pain Federation EFIC is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Felicia Cox, a dedicated mentor, tireless advocate, and cherished colleague in the field of pain management and nursing education.

Felicia’s contributions to pain science and professional pain practice were profound and far-reaching. As a Nurse Consultant in Pain Management, she championed excellence in clinical care, education, and research throughout Europe and beyond.

Within EFIC, Felicia played a pivotal role in our educational mission. She was closely involved in the development and delivery of the first European Diploma in Pain Nursing (EDPN) examination, a landmark initiative that established harmonised standards for specialist pain nursing across Europe. Her expertise, leadership, and commitment were central to shaping the EDPN as a meaningful professional pathway for pain nurses.

Felicia was also a valued member of both the COVID Task Force and the Research Strategy Group, providing thoughtful and strategic guidance during a period of unprecedented challenge for pain services. Her contributions were instrumental in advancing EFIC’s work on research priorities and in ensuring that nursing perspectives were fully integrated into scientific and clinical discussions.

Her many honours, including Honorary Membership of the British Pain Society and Fellowship of the Royal College of Nursing, reflect the high esteem in which she was held across the pain and nursing communities. In May 2025, she was also awarded the BPS Medal of Distinction which is the highest honour to be given at the BPS for those who have made an outstanding contribution to the BPS, as well as its aims and objectives over a sustained period of time.

The European Pain Federation EFIC is sincerely grateful for Felicia Cox’s outstanding contributions and her unwavering commitment to improving the lives of people living with pain. She will be deeply missed and remembered with great respect and appreciation.

The British Pain Society has put together a memorial page for those who would like to share memories, reflections, or condolences.
