In the lead-up to the EFIC Congress 2027 – Pain in Europe XV, EFIC is launching Bridge Talks, a new short-form video series highlighting collaboration between pain researchers and clinicians. The congress will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 21–23 April 2027, under the theme “Building Bridges in Pain: Thriving Through Communication.”
Each conversation features a researcher and a clinician reflecting on how collaboration between science and practice advances our understanding of pain and improves patient care.
In this first Bridge Talk, Prof. Lars Arendt-Nielsen, Professor at Aalborg University, Denmark, and Prof. Asbjørn Mohr Drewes, Professor and Consultant at Aalborg University Hospital and Aalborg University, discuss their long-standing collaboration in pain research and clinical gastroenterology. Drawing on decades of joint work, they explore how experimental pain models and clinical insights complement each other to better understand complex pain mechanisms, including visceral pain.
Their conversation highlights how close collaboration between laboratory research and clinical practice can generate new perspectives, refine diagnostic approaches, and ultimately contribute to better care for people living with chronic pain.
Watch the Bridge Talk below to hear how interdisciplinary collaboration continues to shape the future of pain research and treatment.
